Ástarsaga – Film project needs your support!

Ástarsaga means love story in Icelandic, and that is what it is. The story begins in Brooklyn. After Solange’s boyfriend Baldur suddenly and mysteriously takes off for Iceland – his homeland – Solange decides to go after him. But once there she confronts nothing but strange and unexpected obstacles. A mental hospital, Baldur’s hostile family and a beautiful, barren landscape Solange knows nothing of. After countless failed attempts at communicating with the various authorities, Solange takes matters into her own hands, whatever the consequence.

The film was shot on location in Reykavík and Brooklyn this past August, and they are now well into the editing process. And none of this had been possible if it wasn’t for the film’s amazing creative team: It was produced by Vintage Pictures (established in 2011 by producers Hlín Jóhannesdóttir and Birgitta Björnsdóttir), and – in New York – by Andrew Hauser. The Director of Photography is Arnar Þórisson, and the editor is Eva Lind Höskuldsdóttir. The film stars Katherine Waterston (Solange), as well as Walter Grímsson (Baldur), Elva Ósk Ólafsdóttir (Baldur’s mother), and Kristján Franklín Magnús (Baldur’s stepfather).

Where will your money go? Towards the film’s post-production expenses. In other words: the editing, the sound mix, the music and the color correction.
