Nordic Nights Movie Series: Children of Nature

November 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

CHILDREN OF NATURE

(Börn Náttúrunnar)

The only Icelandic film ever nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, Friðrik Þór Friðriksson’s moving breakthrough feature is a poignant, elegiac, and lightly magicrealist portrait of what (and who) was lost in Iceland’s drive towards modernization. The film opens as the aged Þorgeir (Gísli Halldórsson) bids a silent farewell to the farm he has devoted his life to as he prepares to move in with his grown daughter in Reykjavík. Receiving a decidedly chill reception from his family, he is promptly whisked off to a retirement home, where he is unexpectedly reunited with an old flame, Stella (Sigríður Hagalín). The two soon hatch a plan to escape.

Films screen at the School of Image Arts, Ryerson University, Room 307, 122 Bond St. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Doors open @ 6pm, films start @ 6.30 pm, along with two films from the recent Ryerson Student Film Workshop in Finland.

The event FREE but donations gratefully received.

Sponsored by Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto, School of Image Arts, Ryerson University and Finnish Consulate in Toronto. Other dates in the series are: Tues. Jan. 28 (Finnish) ; Tues. Feb. 25 (Icelandic) ; Tues. Mar. 31. (Finnish)
