Bjarnfreðarson is the story of the eternally willful Georg Bjarnfreðarson. A legend in his own mind. A power hungry man who will very often remind you of his high brow education (he has five degrees or as he puts it “fimm háskólar!!!!!”). The film delves deeply into the history and psyche of Georg, A man tormented by his past and his complex relationship with his parents and their politics, especially the will of his powerful and domineering mother. Sometimes comedic, sometimes tragic and a great display of that black Icelandic humour. Bjarnfreðarson features the famous Icelandic actor, comedian, and politician, Jón Gnarr, at his best!

Directed by Ragnar Bragason, director of the TV series trilogy Næturvaktin, Dagvaktin and Fangavaktin. (The most popular TV series in Iceland in 2007).

Don’t miss this film! At its première in Iceland, it was met with wide critical acclaim and box office success, even beating Avatar at the box office on its opening weekend! It was watched by over 20% of the Icelandic population, which is a record for an Icelandic film, and has won 11 Edda Awards.
