DESCRIPTION:Our next Nordic Nights feature is the Finnish film Je’vida (2023) by Katja Gauriloff . \nSynopsis\nJe’vida (2023) is the story of Lida who after experiencing boarding school with a mission to assimilate Sámi children to Finnish culture moves to Southern Finland\, distancing herself completely from her Skolt Sámi background and family. When her older sister passes away\, there is a need to clear out the family homestead in Lapland. She takes this journey with her niece she has never met before. Memories\, good and bad\, come flooding back as she grapples with who she really is and where she belongs. Award winning director Katja Gauriloff’s Je’vida is the first Skolt Sámi feature film made in Finland.
