DESCRIPTION:Do you remember last summer when COVID restrictions began to lift? Eating in restaurants and meeting up with friends and thinking about travel again. It may be hard to imagine right now in the dead of winter and barely emerging out of a fourth wave in the pandemic\, but this coming summer is beckoning with a promise of sunshine and adventure. \nIf you are considering Iceland\, join the ICCT at the online Iceland Travel Show to gather some great tips and tricks for exploring this amazing land of fire and ice. \nFeatured speakers include: \n“Direct from Iceland – The Cave People”. This tour was a highlight of our ICCT President Gwen Sigrid Morgan’s trip last summer and one of the guides is coming to share highlights of the amazing tour they offer – a must-see on your Golden Triangle Tour (see The Cave People). \n“First Impressions” – Alex Ciappara ventured out last summer and chose to travel to Iceland. Come hear about what drew him to this land of fire and ice and what he discovered. \n“Family travel” – Glen Thordarson was inspired to take his whole family to Iceland. Glen had the draw of wanting to connect with the home of his ancestors and have a fun-filled adventure with his wife and kids. Come hear some tips and tricks for organizing a smooth\, stress-free and fun-filled trip family trip to Iceland. \nBe Different – Iceland inspires tour operators to offer innovative ways of engaging with and exploring the geography\, culture and history of this marvellous country. We are pleased to have join us Toronto’s Worldwide Quest\, who is organizing the 2022 The Globe & Mail Journey to Iceland and offers many unique options for travel from solo-women adventures to exploring literary landscapes. DESCRIPTION:Our next Nordic Nights feature will be the Icelandic film Shadowtown (2020) by Jon Einarsson Gustafsson and Karolina Lewicka.  \nSet in Iceland\, Maya (played by Icelandic-Canadian actress Brittany Bristow) inherits an old house from a schizophrenic grandmother she didn’t know. Messages from a mysterious source lead to questions about her grandmother’s death and ultimately put her own life in danger.. \nThe film will be streamed at an on-line event starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 22nd. \nThe evening will include a Ryerson student workshop short film (from the archive)\, the movie screening\, and a live discussion following the movie.  \n  \nNote: the Nordic Nights event is FREE but donations are welcome!\n\n \n\n\n\nSuggested Donation Amounts\n\n\nOption 1 $10.00 CADOption 2 $5.00 CADOption 3 $25.00 CADOption 4 $100.00 CAD\n\n\n\n\n \n  \nPre-registration required to attend this event:\n \n  \nSynopsis\nSet in the Icelandic financial boom of 2007\, dirty tactics were used by real estate developers to acquire old houses in down-town Reykjavik. A mad rush ensued to replace them with gigantic apartment buildings and hotels. Maya\, a medical student in her mid twenties\, inherits an old house from a schizophrenic grandmother she never met and didn’t know existed. Under pressure to sell the house\, mysterious messages drive her to look further into her family’s past before the chance is gone. A family tragedy is revealed that affects her life even today\, raising questions about her grandmother’s death\, and putting her own life in danger. \nTrailer:\n \n
