DESCRIPTION:Our fourth Saga Connections event will be Joe Martin in conversation with Donald K. Johnson\, discussing Don’s new book Lessons Learned on Bay Street. \nDonald K. Johnson is a well-known prominent member of the Icelandic-Canadian community in Toronto. He was born in Lundar\, Manitoba and was a leading investment banker in Canada for over 50 years and is a member of the Advisory Board of BMO Capital Markets. He was President of Burns Fry\, Governor of the Toronto Stock Exchange\, Chair of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada\, Vice-Chair of BMO Nesbitt Burns and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation\, Chair of the Vision Campaign for funding Canada’s leading Eye Institute\, Member of the 2020 Major Individual Giving Cabinet of United Way Greater Toronto\, Chairman Emeritus of Business/Arts and sits on the Advisory Board of the Ivey Business School. Johnson was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada (2009)\, Order of the Falcon (2019) (Iceland’s equivalent of the Order of Canada)\, received the Lifetime Achievement Award\, Canadian Association of Gift Planners (2018)\, was named Nation Builder of the Year by the Globe & Mail (2007)\, received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and was inducted into the Investment Industry Hall of Fame in 2013. \nDon’s philanthropy has been very important to the Icelandic Canadian community with his support of many programs at the INL-NA and the ICCT over the years. \nJohnson is going to be in conversation with Joe Martin\, who is Executive in Residence at University of Toronto Rotman School of Management\, Adjunct Professor of Strategic Management and Founding President of the Canadian Business History Association. Joe published a book in 2018 From Wall Street to Bay Street. \nThis is going to be a very interesting and informative conversation to witness – and to be part of.
