SUMMARY:Saga Connections 2.2 Building Bridges with Folklore: From Iceland to Beyond. An Evening with Natalie Guttormsson
DESCRIPTION:Our next Saga Connections event will be Building Bridges with Folklore: From Iceland to Beyond. An evening with Natalie Guttormsson.  \nWednesday\, October 20\, 2021 Zoom ONLINE at 7:30.   \nStories are powerful. Icelandic descendants and fans of Iceland know this. From the sagas to the rich body of lore\, Iceland is teeming with powerful stories. And Iceland is not the only country with a wealth of powerful stories. Folklore is a bridge we can use to understand each other. The Huldufolk origin story is the perfect example of this. Let’s take a journey across borders and oceans and into the Hidden World.  \nBio: Natalie Guttormsson is a writer\, blogger\, poet\, and former editor of the ICCT Fálkinn newsletter. She grew up in British Columbia in the Okanagan Valley\, and although she is fiercely proud of her Icelandic heritage\, she is a Canadian blend of Icelandic – English – Scottish – and German. Her rich European ancestry has fed her fascination with folklore since she was a little girl reading Hans Christen Anderson and tales of the brothers’ Grimm and\, of course\, hearing the stories of the Yule Lads. \nNatalie’s love and passion for all things Icelandic took her to Iceland in 2014 as part of the Snorri Program. She was the first Canadian Alumni intern in Hofsós during the summer of 2015. In 2019\, Natalie returned to live in Reykjavik and ended up spending most of the pandemic there. Plenty of quiet time with pandemic lockdowns\, Natalie had lots of time to let her imagination fly and maybe (we can ask her) connect with the Hidden People. She recently moved back to Canada with her husband and son to settle in Camrose\, Alberta\, and to devote her time to writing.  She is the author of two collections of poetry\, Nostalgia and Planting Seeds. She is currently writing her first novel\, and when she’s not busy creating her own worlds\, Natalie works as a copywriter for Fine Point Writing & Editing based out of Edmonton. Natalie has also started an entertaining and information weekly blog featuring folklore stories from around the world. \n  \nPlease join us online for  Saga Connections with Natalie Guttormsson on October 20\, 2021 at 7:30 EDT.  Register HERE \nCome and join us for Saga Connections 2.2 on October 20\, 2021. \nEvent tickets are FREE but donations to the Saga Connections program are gratefully accepted: \n\n\n\nFor Tickets and Registration: \n\n
