Víkingur Ólafsson Concert

Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson Performs Two Toronto Concerts Oct. 27 and 28 Before His Feature Performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

VikingurOlafssonIcelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson will be performing two Toronto solo recitals as part of his 2014 Canadian Concert Series. The Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto and the Consulate of Iceland in Toronto are proud to present these events, as Ólafsson is an accomplished performer.

At just 30 years old, he has been described by The New York Sun as “born to play the piano”, and as a “rising star of a pianist” by the Sunday Times. He holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, and has performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and North America.  For the third year, he has organized  the Reykjavik Midsummer Music Festival, which takes place June 13 to 16 in the beautiful Harpa concert Hall.

During the 2014 Canadian Concert Series, he will be featured with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra playing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. These concerts will take place in Winnipeg on October 31st and November 1st, and in Brandon on November 2nd. Ólafsson will also be performing solo recitals in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Ólafsson will perform a solo recital of this program as part of the Canadian Opera Company’s lunchtime concert series on October 28th. This free event will take place at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts at 12pm. Doors will be at 11:30am. There is limited seating, and no reserve tickets, so come early!
