Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson Performs Two Toronto Concerts Oct. 27 and 28 Before His Feature Performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson will be performing two Toronto solo recitals as part of his 2014 Canadian Concert Series. The Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto and the Consulate of Iceland in Toronto are proud to present these events, as Ólafsson is an accomplished performer.

At just 30 years old, he has been described by The New York Sun as “born to play the piano”, and as a “rising star of a pianist” by the Sunday Times. He holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, and has performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and North America.  For the third year, he has organized the Reykjavik Midsummer Music Festival, which takes place June 13 to 16 in the beautiful Harpa concert Hall.

During the 2014 Canadian Concert Series, he will be featured with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra playing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. These concerts will take place in Winnipeg on October 31^st and November 1^st, and in Brandon on November 2^nd. Ólafsson will also be performing solo recitals in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver.

The first of two Toronto concerts will be held on October 27^th at the Remenyi House of Music at 210 Bloor Street West. Doors will be at 7:00 pm and the show will start at 7:30pm. Ólafsson will be performing Bach’s Goldberg Variations, followed by a Nordic Program including Icelandic folk and art songs. As this event has limited seating, advance tickets at the price of $20.
