ENGLISH   2013

Icelandic filmmaker Róbert Ingi Douglas’ latest movie is set in the expat community in Beijing.  It is a comedy based loosely around the lives of Mr. Douglas and his friends. Sanlitun is an upscale retail, dining and drinking area in Beijing popular among foreigners.

The film, Mr. Douglas’s English-language debut, held its premiere at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, his fourth appearance there.

The movie follows hapless British expat Gary (Carlos Ottery), who ventures to the Middle Kingdom in search of riches in business and in an attempt to win back his ex-wife. He stumbles upon Frank (Chris Loton), an Australian and longtime know-it-all China hand, who is more than happy to dole out not-so-successful advice about how to make it in Beijing.
